Hubert Waelrant (c. 1517-1595): Pater Abraham (5vv) [Sacrarum cantionum liber sextus, 1558?]

Our new collection of today is Waelrant's opera magna Sacrarum cantionum liber sextus. After publishing other composer's works, Hubert Waelrant self published a fascinating collection of fifteen motets around 1558, scored for five and six voices. The first motet of the Cantionum sacrarum is Pater Abraham, which includes some audicious and expressive harmonic twists that match the text (Now, however, he is consoled here, and you are truly in agony.)

Lodovico Agostini (1534-1590): Alma Dei genitrix (SSAATB) [Canones et echo sex vocibus, 1572]

We are offering today a new collection with Alma Dei genitrix, the first motet of Canones et echo sex vocibus, a collection of 19 motets for six to eight voices by Lodovico Agostini (1534-1590). Some of these motets have resolved canons with enigmatic inscriptions (like the canon in Alma Dei genitrix, where the inscription Alpha et omega can be read in the Sextus).
