A fascinating double motet by the French composer Leonardo Barré (fl. 1537-after 1555). This musical gem has an extraordinary symbolical meaning in the canon in the Tenor 1 with the indication Ut discantur septem peccata mortalia dic septies Pater noster et Ave Maria ("To learn the Seven Deadly Sins say seven times Pater noster and Ave Maria"): therefore, the Altus 1 must sing (transposed up a fifth) seven times an ostinato of the first notes of the Tenor 1 in both parts of the motet.
