We are proud to announce our complete edition of the Primi frutti de motetti a cinque voci (Venice, 1548), the first collection of motets by the Italian composer Francesco Portinaro (c. 1520-c. 1577).
Born in Padua, Portinaro worked for important institutions such as the Accademia dei Costanti of Vicenza, the Accademia degli Elevati of Padua or the Accademia Filarmonica of Verona. According to Maria Archetto "Portinaro's clearly constructed, fluid and reserved polyphonic style was praised during his lifetime".
The Primi frutti de motetti contains 19 motets: 15 for five voices, three for six voices (including the outstanding Quanti mercenarii) and one for seven voices (Regina caeli). The first motet is the beautiful Tribularer si nescirem (SATTB).
